There's no better way to spend a day than exploring the town with family. After all, your little ones won't stay that little forever! Fortunately, the Akron and Canton area is ripe with fun, kid-friendly destinations worth exploring, ranging from the local zoos and art museums to puzzle rooms and indoor playgrounds. We rounded up a few of our favorites below, so peruse the list and let your kids pick one or two to try next weekend! If we were still kids, we would definitely enjoy all of the things on this list.

Monkey Around at the Akron Zoo

Akron Zoo Featuring 25 acres of exhibits and guest amenities, the Akron Zoo is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon with family! Meet animals from all over the world up close, ride the train, spin around on the carousel, and marvel at the Wild World Animal Show. Admission is just $12 for adults, $9 for kids ages 2 to 12 and free for kids 2 and under.

Hop Aboard the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad

Trains might not be the most convenient way to travel, but they certainly are the most fun! Kids will love hopping aboard the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, which winds through Cuyahoga Valley National Park and features spectacular views. While any route comes with its fair share of adventure, the railroad hosts kid-friendly events throughout the year, including a very popular Polar Express Ride during the holidays.

Dig Up Some History at the Akron Fossils & Science Center

The Akron Fossils and Science Center allows children to explore the treasures of the past through interactive exhibits. The center believes the best way to learn science is to experience it, so visitors are encouraged to be more than just observers. Take up your pick and your gloves and dig up some knowledge!

Check out the Akron Children's Museum

This interactive museum for kids offers hands-on exhibits on science, technology, health and culture. The mission behind the museum is to be a gathering place for children and adults "where play inspires exploration, discovery and problem solving." There is always something to learn here, and the colorful space spurs the imagination!

Get a Meal at Cafe O' Play

Cafe O' Play is far from your traditional cafe. While the space serves delicious sandwiches, pastries, salads, soups, pizza and more, it also functions as a gigantic indoor play area for young kids. Gather with friends and enjoy a meal while you let the little ones run wild on the playground! The play area is specifically designed to thrill kids ages 10 and under.

Get Outside at One of Our Area's Metro Parks

When in doubt, explore the outdoors! There is an abundance of Metro Parks in the Akron and Canton area — all of which feature wildlife viewing opportunities, bike paths, wildflowers, soccer fields and hiking trails for your enjoyment.

Indulge Your Sweet Tooth at the Harry London/Fannie May Chocolate Factory

Harry London Factory It's not quite as wacky as Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, but the Harry London/Fannie May Factory still churns out mouthwatering treats people of all ages will love! Bring the family to take a 45-minute tour of the facility, where you'll be able to sample Ohio's famed Buckeye candies and surround yourself with the aroma of chocolate. Tours depart hourly Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Bounce Around at Sky Zone Trampoline Park

Sky Zone Trampoline Park is a dream come true for little adventurers, filled with trampolines that span from wall to wall. Enjoy freestyle jumping on the massive trampolines, engage in a game of dodgeball on a bouncy court, or dive headfirst into the foam zone! People of all ages are guaranteed to have fun here.

Escape from a Local Puzzle Room

Puzzle rooms challenge people of all ages to work together — solving puzzles and hunting down clues with the objective of escaping a locked room in under an hour! The rooms at Canton's Escape Room Downtown are fun (and never scary), so they're perfect for families. Try your luck at the Missing Detective's Office, the Moonlight Gallery and the Bootlegger's Lair.

Treat Yourself to Ice Cream

Ice Cream in Akron and Canton It's not just a summertime treat! We happen to believe ice cream tastes great year-round. Sampling flavors and enjoying shared time over a sundae is an activity cherished by adults and kids alike. Fortunately, Northeast Ohio is home to plenty of top-notch creameries — some of which have been around since the 1930s or earlier! Here are some of our favorites in the area.

Visit North Canton Skate Zone and Entertainment Center

Even if you're not the best at skating or rollerblading, there are tons of fun things to explore at North Canton Skate Zone and Entertainment Center! Alongside its festive skating rink, the family fun center offers laser tag, bumper cars, a rock wall, a large arcade and so much more.

Peruse the Local Farmers Market

Farmers Market We live in one of the best regions of the United States for fresh produce and locally produced meats — and you can find an unbeatable selection at your local farmers market. Bring the kiddos with you and let them pick a few ingredients to use in your meals for the week. Many local markets also have live music, games and face painting to entertain the whole family! Here are the best farmers markets near Akron and Canton.

Battle it Out at Laser Quest Akron

Live action laser tag awaits you at Laser Quest Akron. Bring the whole family to duck behind the elaborate obstacles and navigate the expertly designed course — and make sure to watch your back. We're sure your kids are dying to tag you out!

Explore your Local Art Museum

Budding artists will love exploring the collections at our local art museums! Both the Akron Art Museum and the Canton Museum of Art are kid-friendly, and they each feature spectacular exhibits worth exploring. Plus, children get free admission at both locations, and admission is free for everyone on Thursdays!

Try a New Craft

Sidewalk Chalk If the weather outside isn't cooperating with your family plans, stay home and try a fun new craft or recipe instead! Here are 13 fail-proof ideas from local Ohio bloggers we love.

Have fun with the family!
