Pierogi are delicious dumplings originating in Poland but also popular in Germany and Eastern Europe. They're stuffed with a range of fillings such as potatoes and cheese, sauerkraut, and ground meat. You don't have to be Polish to enjoy pierogi — especially on October 8th! It's National Pierogi Day, the perfect opportunity to treat yourself to this satisfying comfort food. You could buy some pierogi and prepare them at home or visit a Northeast Ohio restaurant in celebration.
Pierogi Palace of Cleveland

Pierogi Palace is a vendor inside West Side Market in Cleveland. It's a great place to get your pierogi fix after doing your weekly produce shopping. The pierogi here are huge; two or three could make a complete meal. Choose from multiple fillings such as mushroom and artichoke hearts, classic potato, and crab meat.
Pierogi Palace sells their pierogi individually, so you can purchase as many as you like. They're all on display in a glass case, and the employees pack them to order. If you need suggestions for cooking and preparing them, just ask.
Mom's Pierogies

Mom's Pierogies is a takeout restaurant known for traditional Polish pierogi. You can order your pierogi either boiled or fried. Their takeout menu includes a Pierogi Meal with four potato cheddar pierogi, caramelized onions, sour cream, and two sides. The cucumber salad and potato salad are both delicious side options.
Mom's Pierogies also sells frozen pierogi. In addition to their classic potato cheddar variety, they have mushroom and cheese, potato cheddar jalapeno, sauerkraut, and breakfast pierogi. The breakfast pierogi are stuffed with sausage, cheese, and scrambled eggs, and they're a crowd-pleaser.

Beer and pierogi pair together so well, which is probably why Der Braumeister serves both. This German restaurant has a great selection of German and Eastern European beers you can't find anywhere else in Cleveland. Grab a pint, then order a round of pierogi. Here, they are made with ricotta cheese and served with applesauce and sour cream.
The pierogi here are a starter, so you may want to order an entree too. The chicken paprikash is a tried and true favorite, as is the potato pancake Reuben.
Dick & Alice Sausage and Pierogi Haus

If you want to go out to eat for National Pierogi Day, then Dick & Alice Sausage and Pierogi Haus is a great choice. This casual, welcoming restaurant serves all of the polish favorites, plus a few unique twists. Guests love Moons Over Parma, a pierogi dish consisting of beer braised pierogi, pepperkraut, crispy pork belly, and Flaming Cheeto dust.
The Polish sausage at Dick & Alice is incredible and the perfect pairing for pierogi. Try the Buffalo chicken, Asian Persuasion, or Cleveland Standard sausage, and add on two pierogi for an extra $3.
The South Side

For a gastropub-like atmosphere, head to The South Side for your pierogi fix. This American restaurant has an awesome patio, great service, and a varied menu. Their pierogi are on the "Sharable" menu, and indeed, they are a great dish to share with friends at the bar. Served with rosemary garlic butter, they're a bit unique but not too far a departure from traditional pierogi.
You can order a larger portion of pierogi as an entree, too. Or, start with the pierogi and follow up with some tacos, chicken and waffles, or shrimp and grits. Pierogi heat up well, so having leftovers is never a bad thing.
Das Schnitzel Haus

If you're in the Parma area, stop by Das Schnitzel Haus for your pierogi meal. This festive German restaurant serves classic, house-made potato-and-cheese pierogi with grilled onions and sour cream. They also have other German favorites like sauerkraut balls and potato pancakes.
Don't leave Das Schnitzel Haus without ordering dessert. Even though it's National Pierogi Day, you have to try their handmade strudels. The cheese is incredible, as are the apple and cherry options. The German chocolate cake is delicious too.

What do you get when you combine good music and pierogi? You get Jukebox, a unique Cleveland restaurant. Guests can select songs to play on the jukebox and enjoy their meal on a spacious patio, weather permitting. They have several options for vegans and those following gluten-free diets.
Jukebox has a whole menu section dedicated to pierogi. Fillings include potato and cheese, potato and bacon, sweet potato black bean, and Buffalo chickpea. You can also choose your dipping sauces, with options including creamy dill, stadium mustard, and house ranch. Add a side of kraut for good measure, and dig in while listening to your favorite band.
Lena's Pierogi House

With a name like Lena's Pierogi House, you can bet this place serves some incredible pierogi. They serve the classic options daily but have specialty "Daily Pierogies." On Fridays, try the Sweet Cottage Cheese pierogi. The Buffalo Chicken variety is also incredible whenever it's featured.
In addition to pierogi, Lena's sells some other delicious German and Hungarian fare. Guests love the Hungarian Platter, which comes with cheddar pierogi, cabbage rolls, mashed potato, chicken paprikash, and slaw. The Kielbasa and Kraut Hoagie is also great and served with a cheddar pierogi on the side. Lena's sells frozen pierogi you can prepare at home too.

If you need help navigating through the sellers and finding what you'd like, an office in the center building is staffed and ready to point you in the right direction. They've moved from their original location to one with 12 acres of outdoor space and 3 acres of indoor shopping. The marketplace also hosts special events such as coin and bike shows throughout the year and has been named a Top 20 Flea Market in the U.S. by Flea Market Insiders.
Four Seasons Flea & Farm Market

The Four Seasons Flea & Farm Market is located on the grounds of a large former airport just three miles west of Pennsylvania, so you'll have plenty to explore when you visit. The indoor/outdoor market has 88,000 square feet of indoor space and 22 acres of blacktop. As the market owners say, it's like going to 600 yard sales at once. In addition to flea market finds, including home decor, clothing, toys, and much more, you'll also be able to shop for fresh fruits and veggies, home-baked bread, and other farmers market goodies. The market is open Wednesdays and Sundays year-round.
Peddlers Flea Market

You'll be able to shop year-round at Peddlers Flea Market, which has provided treasures for more than 30 years. Wear comfortable shoes because if you want to do some serious exploring, you'll have 25,000 square feet to cover inside and 1.5 acres outside. Shop at the 110 indoor booths or 300 outdoor vendors, stopping at a concession stand for food and drink when you need to refuel. With this many vendors, you'll have your choice of unique items, including collectibles, clothing, jewelry, home decor, toys, and more.

You'll find The City Flea, a curated urban flea market, once a month at Washington Park and other locations from April-December. Currently, in its 12th year, the flea market has attracted many shoppers over the years and now sees thousands attend each market, and some of its sellers have grown from hobbyists to full-time business owners. Vendors sell items that are unique, creative, and visually interesting, including everything from plants to artisan pizzas, so there's truly something for everyone. Even kids can get in on the fun and money-making since some of the markets also feature kids' booths.
Treasure Aisles Flea Market

Drive north from Cincinnati about 25 miles, and you'll come to Treasure Aisles Flea Market, which covers over 44 acres and has over 500 shops. Make a day of it and enjoy some live music and entertainment on two stages. You can even start your day with breakfast from one of the concession stands and stay to enjoy a hot dog or taco for lunch. The market is open Saturdays and Sundays year-round, and admission costs $2 cash per car.
Westland Flea Market

Open for more than 25 years, Westland Flea Market has over 300 dealer booths in its air-conditioned interior and more than 80 vendors outdoors. The broad mix of vendors sells everything from trinkets to high-end items such as TVs, computers, and antiques. A snack bar is available, serving sandwiches, fries, ice cream, and other treats. The market is also home to a "flealess" version of the market, where flea market owners sell goods for dealers who aren't available. This convenience means that even if one of the dealers is away or their booth is closed, you can still buy from the flea market's owners and employees.

Located close to the Scioto River, Greater Columbus Antique Mall offers five stories of eclectic items housed in an interesting historic building. You'll find everything from glassware to vinyl records to furniture in the mall's unique building, so plan to browse for a while. And although it's called an antique mall, the space also carries vintage items. With such a large number and variety of items available, you're unlikely to leave empty-handed.
South Drive-In Theater and Flea Market

The South Drive-In Theater and Flea Market shows drive-in movies and serves as the site of a large outdoor flea market. Mac's Backs-Books on Coventry is a one of the largest bookstores in Ohio. They have three stories of books and community rooms where they host educational events. This shop has a great sci-fi collection and lots of young adult fiction. The entire basement is full of non-fiction titles.
Mack's Backs is walking distance from Case Western Reserve University and is therefore popular with college students. Keep an eye on their website for events such as book signings, writing workshops, and live readings.
Novelty Shop Used & Rare Books

If you're looking for a specific rare or antique book, Novelty Shop is the place to go. This boutique book store sells used, rare, and antique books, along with a small selection of other antique items. You'll find original hardcovers of classics, leatherbound books, and first editions galore.

But they also have so much more than books. There's a bar and coffee shop where you can grab your favorite drink to sip while you read. Selections include craft beers from Fat Head and Left Hand Brewing. They even host wine tasting events.
Inside Visible Voice Books, there is also a neighborhood pizza shop called Crust. So, you can enjoy lunch, find a new book, and buy a bottle of wine—all under one roof. The shop is open Tuesday-Sunday.

Head to the hidden bookcase passage in the back that leads upstairs to the bar. Be sure to order the Hemingway Daiquiri with light rum, lime and grapefruit juices, and Luxardo liqueur. Their namesake meals come with your choice of seafood, boiled in one of three different sauces and spiced in five levels, from "No Heat" to "OMG." Combos include two types of seafood and three add-ons, ideal for sharing. Daiquiris come in strawberry, pineapple, and mango, with three sizes available. Old-school cocktails get a contemporary update at The Bar at Echo Spirits. Founders Nikhil Sharoff and Joe Bidinger have a mission to create artisan spirits that honor history and flavor. The drinks are bestowed with charming names that are as inventive as the recipes. A Bell Through the Night is a daiquiri for "lovers of meadows and witchy things," made with Echo Spirits rum, jasmine cordial, honeysuckle, and lime. Need some time to decide? Order a Snaquiri, a miniature daiquiri made with bartender's choice. Feel free to bring in off-site food or purchase from one of the food trucks that are usually on hand. Hours are 4 p.m. - 11 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 4 p.m. - midnight Friday and Saturday, and 4 p.m. - 11 p.m. Sunday.
Lost & Found OTR

One customer aptly described the ambiance at Lost & Found OTR as "a work of modern pop art." The bar is housed in a four- to five-car garage attached to a home in the historic Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. Funky furnishings and accessories, including the colorful mural in the front patio bar, are almost all works of local artists. Stop in Wednesday through Sunday for "Easy Hour," with special pricing on pitchers of daiquiris, mules, and Margaritas, as well as snacks and sandwiches. Daiquiris and pizza? It's a match made in heaven at Rosie's Cocktails & Pies. Rosie's brings East Coast tomato pie-style pizza to Cincinnati. Specialty pies include the popular Tie-Dye, with a pinwheel of pesto atop the tomato and mozzarella. There's even a breakfast pizza, topped with ham, sausage, bacon, spinach, and egg. The menu also includes several pasta dishes, paninis, and salads. OGPD, Rosie's spin on a daiquiri, mixes pineapple rum with ginger liqueur, pineapple, and lime. Spacious and stylish, Igby's proudly proclaims that "the drinks are cold, but the hospitality is warm." The 7,500-square-foot Civil War-era building features two floors of bars, with balconies around the atrium for good visibility. Each level also has an outdoor balcony, one facing Sixth St. and the other with a bit more privacy. Giggle Water is their take on a daiquiri, featuring a blend of Bacardi Dragonberry Rum, lime juice, simple syrup, and tiki bitters, topped with Prosecco.
