Great Outdoors Month Around Ohio - Cutler Real Estate

June is Great Outdoors Month, and Ohio is a particularly beautiful place to spend some time outside in June. In every corner of the Buckeye State, an endless array of parks, lakes, rivers, and trails are just waiting to be explored. If you're looking for an outdoor adventure this month, be sure to check out these wild destinations in Ohio!

Geneva State Park

4499 Padanarum Rd., Geneva, OH 44041

Overlooking the vast expanse of Lake Erie in Northeast Ohio, Geneva State Park is one of the state's true gems when it comes to summer fun and relaxation. Geneva State Park includes a sandy swimming beach, beautiful picnic areas, and a campground with nearly 100 sites for tents and RVs. But one of the park's greatest attractions is fishing. Lake Erie provides some of the best fishing in America for walleye, perch, smallmouth bass, and other species. You'll find a marina and boat launch facilities along with a fishing pier and ample open shoreline in Geneva State Park.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park

5793 Boston Mills Rd., Peninsula, OH 44264

Cuyahoga Valley National Park feels worlds away from civilization despite being less than an hour from major cities like Cleveland and Akron. It is, without a doubt, one of the most spectacular outdoor attractions in Northeast Ohio. Spanning more than 50 square miles, the park follows the course of the Cuyahoga River through its namesake valley, providing a haven for native plants and wildlife. You can explore more than 125 miles of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails within the park, including the beautiful Towpath Trail, which follows the historic route of the Ohio & Erie Canal. If you're experiencing Cuyahoga Valley National Park for the first time, the Boston Mills Visitor Center is a great place to start.

Rocky River Reservation

Valley Parkway, North Olmsted, OH 44070

One of 18 reservations that make up Cleveland's extensive Metroparks system, Rocky River Reservation is a long, narrow park that follows the meandering course of the Rocky River. Trails and other attractions draw visitors to both sides of the river, which is a prime waterway for fishing and paddling. But what makes the Rocky River Reservation really stand out is its equestrian trails, which stretch for miles through the riverside forests. It's one of the best destinations in Northeast Ohio for horseback riding. Rocky River Stables offers riding lessons and guided horseback riding trips.

Alum Creek State Park

3305 S. Old State Rd., Delaware, OH 43015

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by @glowginger

A popular destination for boating, fishing, and water sports of all kinds, Alum Creek Lake is one of Ohio's largest reservoirs and is located just minutes from Columbus. The lake is long and narrow, making it ideal for water skiing and personal watercraft, but it also has plenty of secluded coves and shorelines perfect for canoeing and kayaking. Campgrounds, picnic areas, fishing access, and a swimming beach are located within Alum Creek State Park. Alum Creek Lake can get a little busy on summer weekends, so it's always a good idea to visit mid-week if you want to beat the crowds.

ZipZone Outdoor Adventures

7925 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43235

We hope you aren't afraid of heights! ZipZone Outdoor Adventures offers one of the most thrilling, adrenaline-fueled outdoor adventures in Ohio, and you can experience it all without leaving the Columbus city limits. ZipZone provides a wide range of aerial thrills, including zip line tours high in the forest canopy, and an exciting treetop obstacle course with five routes and over 60 challenge elements. There's a ground-level kids' park as well, making ZipZone a great option for the entire family.

Hocking Hills State Park

19852 OH-664, Logan, OH 43138

The entire Hocking Hills region has a reputation as one of Ohio's great outdoor playgrounds, a haven for everything from hiking and paddling to camping and fishing. Hocking Hills State Park, just over an hour southeast of Columbus, is one of the region's great destinations to enjoy all of the above. The park's rugged landscape includes towering cliffs, tumbling waterfalls, and dense, shady groves of hemlock trees crisscrossed by hiking trails. Campsites and cabins are available too.

Little Miami National Scenic River Trail

211 Railroad Ave., Loveland, OH 45140

Flowing between Dayton and Cincinnati, the Little Miami River was one of the first streams in America to be designated a National Scenic River. It's one of Ohio's most beautiful paddling destinations, meandering through mile after mile of forests and farmland. The community of Loveland, OH is a popular place to begin paddling trips on the river. Guided trips and gear rentals are available through Loveland Canoe & Kayak. For anyone who prefers to stay on dry land, the river is paralleled by the 78-mile Little Miami Scenic Bike Trail.

Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden

3400 Vine St., Cincinnati, OH 45220

Always one of Cincinnati's biggest summer attractions, the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is operated with a commitment to inspiring visitors and helping preserve wildlife. One of the oldest zoos in the U.S., it's been open since 1873 and is currently home to the world-famous hippo Fiona. The adjoining botanical gardens are just as impressive, displaying a spectacular variety of Ohio native plants and trees, as well as non-native plants from around the world. The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is frequently ranked among the best Zoos in America, although the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium gives it a run for its money!

Mt. Airy Forest

5083 Colerain Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45223

At 1,500 acres. Mt. Airy Forest is Cincinnati's largest park. It was also, at the time of its establishment in 1911, one of the earliest urban reforestation projects in U.S. history. Today, the park offers some of the best opportunities for Cincinnati residents to get off the grid and enjoy some time in the great outdoors. Mt. Airy forest is home to many miles of multi-use trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, as well as picnic areas, playgrounds, a dog park, disc golf course, and Ohio's only wheelchair-accessible public treehouse.

Donut Shops Around Ohio - Cutler Real Estate

Who doesn't like donuts? The delicious fried treats come in enough forms and flavors to please just about anybody, and they even have their own designated Doughnut Day, which falls on June 4. Whether you spell it donut or doughnut, like yeast versions or cake varieties, or crave traditional or out-of-the-box flavors, you'll be able to indulge your cravings around Northeast Ohio.

Try any of the following 9 places to enjoy a delectable donut – or two! – in Northeast Ohio, Columbus, or Cincinnati.

Jack Frost Donuts

4960 Pearl Rd., Cleveland, OH 44109

Since it opened in 1937, Jack Frost Donuts has gained a loyal following through the generations. As their slogan says, every batch is made from scratch, and you can enjoy familiar favorites as well as fun new flavors and designs. The shop makes over 200 types of donuts and has a daily menu as well as rotating additions of other flavors. On the daily menu, you'll find delicious offerings like Boston cream, cherry cheesecake, Death by Chocolate, and a Fruity Pebbles cereal cake donut. Or try a specialty donut, like banana split strawberry cream, Almond Joy, Reese's Cup chocolate cream, or a cake donut with Fruit Loops cereal and white icing. Hours are 6 a.m.-6 p.m. daily, unless the shop sells out of its offerings sooner.

Bigmouth Donut Company

1418 W. 29th St., Cleveland, OH 44113

You can get your fill of craft donuts made from scratch using fresh, natural ingredients at Bigmouth Donut Company. And if you have special dietary needs or preferences, you may want to try some of their vegan or gluten-free options. Order raised brioche donuts in flavors like Georgia peach, peanut butter buckeye, and lemon raspberry, or indulge in fry cakes in flavors like blueberry or Oreo cookie. Gluten-free options include vanilla bean glazed, or go vegan and gluten-free with a choice like chocolate with peanut butter cream. Hours are 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday-Sunday.

Peace Love & Little Donuts

3786 Rocky River Dr., Cleveland, OH 44111

As its name indicates, you'll find the donuts smaller than what you're accustomed to at Peace Love & Little Donuts, but many people refer to them as the perfect size. And if your appetite is a little bigger, you can use their smaller size as the perfect excuse to indulge in several of the tasty treats by sampling different flavors. The shop serves cake-style donuts with frosting and a selection of "funkadelic" toppings. Choose from fun flavors like apple pie, M&M, Oreo cheesecake, s'mores, salted pretzel, and many more. Hours are 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday.

Holtman's Donuts

1332C-2 Vine St., Cincinnati, OH 45202

Holtman's Donuts has been a family-owned and operated business since 1960, making donuts using the highest quality of ingredients. Throughout the years, they've been made from scratch, from the dough to the icings, glaze, custard, and white cream. Choose your favorite type of donut – yeast, cake, or long John, and indulge in favorites like red velvet cake with cream cheese icing, a yeast donut with maple icing and bacon topping, or a yeast donut with vanilla icing and Fruity Pebble cereal topping. Hours are 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday.

Silverton Donut Shop

7414 Montgomery Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45236

Silverton Donut Shop is a no-frills mom-and-pop shop that serves up delicious treats, opening early in the morning to do so. Cincinnati Magazine suggests ordering a freshly glazed donut dunked in hot coffee and also says the star of Silverton's is the Honeymoon Donut, which has developed a cult following. The yeast donut is fried, glazed, and filled with your choice of lemon meringue or Bavarian crème custard. The shop has also been certified Kosher. Hours are 5 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 5 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, and 6 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Gadabout Doughnuts

1719 Elm St., Cincinnati, OH 45202

Gadabout Doughnuts is a craft doughnut shop that serves an interesting variety of flavors. Try a vibrantly iced blueberry lemon donut or go upscale with a chocolate lemon donut with shortbread. If you're ordering for more people than just yourself or would like more variety, order a mini box of eight of the shop's donuts in miniature size. Order online and pick your donuts up on Saturday from 7 a.m.-11 a.m. on Saturday.

Destination Donuts

59 Spruce St., Columbus, OH 43215

Get uniquely decadent treats at Destination Donuts, which uses quality ingredients that are locally sourced whenever possible. They're made without preservatives, additives, and other "fake stuff," and the donuts' flavor reflects this commitment to quality. Flavors change daily and include creative offerings like triple berry cardamom, maple sausage, mojito, and salty caramel with toasted pecans. Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.

Amy's Donuts

650 Georgesville Rd., Columbus, OH 43228

Enjoy your fill of delicious donuts in clever flavors at Amy's Donuts, with choices like chocolate almond cake and cherry lemon. You can also choose from the shop's selection of gourmet donuts, including Andes mint, bananas foster, and Butterfinger glaze. Hours are 4 a.m.-10 p.m. daily, and the drive-thru is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week so you can indulge your late-night donut cravings.

Buckeye Donuts

1998 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43201

Located across from The Ohio State University's campus, Buckeye Donuts has been a Columbus classic since 1969. Order a customer favorite such as the shop's namesake Buckeye donut, a devil's food donut plain or frosted, or a maple bacon long john. Hours are, as the shop advertises, "open always, closed never!" so you'll be able to get your donut fix around the clock.

Hole-y Moley!

Where's your favorite donut shop, and what flavors make you go out of your way to stop and order?

Candy Shops Around Ohio - Cutler Real Estate

If you've been itching to feel like a kid in a candy store again, then we have great news! June is Candy Month. That's right — there is a whole month dedicated to the appreciation of candy. If you're in Cincinnati or Columbus, or if you're looking for homes in Northeast Ohio, then you have your choice of candy stores. Here are few top places to satisfy your sweet tooth during Candy Month.

Russell Stover Chocolates

1500 Polaris Pkwy., Columbus OH, 43240

You've probably enjoyed Russell Stover chocolates before, but have you ever visited their store in person? Candy Month gives you the perfect reason to stop by, especially if you're nearby looking at Columbus homes for sale.

Russell Stover Assorted Creams are really popular right now. They feature rich, creamy centers in flavors including vanilla cream, raspberry, and orange. If you're trying to keep your sugar intake down, try some Joy Bites. These tasty chocolate bars are free from all added sugar, colors, artificial sweeteners, and preservatives. They offer all of the chocolate indulgence without as much guilt.

Anthony-Thomas Chocolates

4727 Reed Rd., Columbus OH, 43220

Anthony-Thomas Candy Shoppe has been in business for five generations. They are a mainstay in the Columbus community, and their chocolates are incredibly delicious. For something cute, check out their selection of Ohio-themed gifts, such as their assorted chocolates in a Columbus Skyline box.

Buckeyes are another popular choice at this shop. With creamy peanut butter filling and a sweet milk chocolate coating, they're a really satisfying treat. And if you're not in the mood for chocolate, you can always bring home a bag of sour gummies, cinnamon bears, or black licorice.

Colonial Candy

3620 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43214

Do you want to shop for candy online, and then pick up your order when it's ready? Then Colonial Candy is the shop for you to visit during Candy Month. You can build your order on their website, and they'll let you know when it's ready for pickup.

With this online ordering option, it's easy to try a little of everything — and you totally should! The buttercream and brownie cream chocolates are exceptional and are sold in 1/8 pound increments. Then there are peanut clusters with a cream center. They're crunchy and delicious.

Groovy Gumball Candy Company

6846 Wooster Pike, Cincinnati OH, 45227

Here's a fun place to stop if you're in the area looking at Cincinnati homes for sale. Even the name makes you think of fun, colorful candy treats. It would be impossible to step into this shop and not feel excited and upbeat.

Groovy Gumball has an ice cream shop inside, so you can easily enjoy a cone while you're there and then purchase candy to bring home. Their Woodford Reserve Bourbon Balls are a must-buy if you like this kind of thing. They're so soft and creamy inside. Of course, they also carry lots of fun, seasonal, molded chocolates.

Supreme Nut and Candy

6147 Glenway Ave., Cincinnati OH, 45211

Supreme Nut and Candy has the distinction of being the oldest candy store in Cincinnati. So, it is definitely worth a visit during Candy Month, even if you have to drive a little to get there. The decor inside is simple, so the candy can speak for itself. And it has a lot to say.

This shop offers all sorts of pre-packaged chocolates, including hard-to-find products like 100 Grand Bars and Fruit BonBons. If you're trying to be healthy, take a look at some of their nut mixes. The cinnamon almonds are the perfect cross between candy and health food. They also offer some even sweeter options, like Jordan almonds and Boston baked beans.

Fawn Candy

4271 Harrison Ave., Cincinnati OH, 45211

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Fawn Candy (@fawncandy)

Founded by the Guenther family in 1964, Fawn Candy still makes their candy the old-fashioned way in small batches. They make a bit of everything, including hard candies, gummies, and chocolates. The gummy shapes are always changing with the seasons to keep things festive.

The peanut brittle is a tried-and-true favorite at Fawn Candy. If you're in the mood for something even sweeter, try the Savannah Creams. They're a traditional pull candy that melts in your mouth, and they're perfect for early summer.

Malley's Chocolates

27119 Chagrin Blvd., Woodmere OH, 44122

Malley's Chocolates is a family-owned store that first opened in 1935. When they opened their current location in 1994, there were hundreds of people waiting outside in anticipation!

Inside the shop, you'll find an ice cream bar where you can order your favorite customized sundae. But of course, it's Candy Month, so you can't leave without buying some candy, too. Malley's truffles, nut clusters, and assorted boxes have all won awards and will melt in your mouth. The gourmet bars are also really popular. Try the gourmet caramel bar for something truly indulgent.

All City Candy

746 Richmond Rd., Cleveland OH, 44143

If you're looking for nostalgic and retro candy, visit All City Candy in Cleveland. Their old-fashioned candy section is huge, offering options from as far back as 1900! You'll find Mallo Cups, Abba Zabbas, and more. Bring your parents along for a visit, and let them take a trip down memory lane.

All City Candy also offers a great selection of chocolates, bulk candy, and sour candy. They hand-dip chocolate-covered pretzels and cookies in the store, too. Visitors love the giant tubs of bubble gum, Jelly Bellies, and candies that take them back to childhood.

Chocolate Emporium

2169 S. Green Rd., South Euclid, OH 44121

Specializing in artisan chocolates, this shop will have your mouth watering from the moment you step in the door. They offer plenty of gluten-free, vegan, and kosher options and have been a staple in Northeast Ohio since 1993.

Visitors to Chocolate Emporium really love the almond bark, which is made with whole almonds and chocolate that's the perfect balance between crisp and melty. The bulk bourbon truffles are another must-try option, as are the cherry cordials. You can even buy some of their house-made chocolate chips to take home and bake cookies with.

It's a Sweet Month

Where will you be celebrating Candy Month in Northeast Ohio? Let us know. We're as excited as you are to try some new candy.
