Sweater weather is here, and that means it's time to enjoy all the fun fall-themed activities that come along with it. There are many fun things to do in Northeast Ohio this time of year, and heading out to an orchard to pick your own apples is one of the best.

Not only will you be able to enjoy your delicious haul of apples for weeks, but many local apple orchards also host fall festivals and other fun events. Here's a round-up of some of our favorite local spots to go apple picking. 

Arrowhead Orchard

A visit to Arrowhead Orchard is always a good time! You can enjoy a hayride through the farm with special stops so you can hop off and pick your own apples. They also have a pumpkin patch, a stunning you-cut sunflower field, and fresh-pressed apple cider. 

Bring the kids — they'll love the two-acre corn maze. There's also a huge outdoor play area with a children's zip-line, a pedal car track, lots of slides, a corn pit, an obstacle course, and more! You can also try your hand at the apple cannons, where you can take aim and shoot at your favorite targets. 

Arrowhead Orchard is open Friday through Monday until October 25th. Admission ranges from $5 to $10, and they also offer free parking. 

Patterson Fruit Farm

Patterson Fruit Farm offers something for everyone. They provide wagon rides through the orchard and have a wide variety of apples available. If you can, plan to visit during their Family Fun Fest, which runs through October 31st. 

During the festival, they'll have tons of things for kids to do, including a 50-foot racing slide, a corn maze, pedal tractors, tire swings, push carts, and more. They'll also have face painting and pumpkin painting, pony rides, and horse-drawn wagon rides on designated days. 

Patterson Fruit Farm is open Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 6 pm with a $6 per person admission cost, and Friday through Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm with a $10 per person admission cost. Kids under 2 are free, and seniors are $6 every day. 

Hillside Orchard and Farm Market

2397 Center Rd., Hinckley, OH 44233

If you want a great selection of tasty treats to enjoy at home, you'll definitely want to pay a visit to Hillside Orchard. Not only can you pick delicious, juicy apples right off the tree, but you can also visit their farm market for fresh-baked bread and bagels, jams, jellies, preserves, special canned items like marinades and sauces, locally famous fruit pies, and more!

Many of the items you'll find here are from the nearby Amish community. You also won't want to miss out on their almost-famous frozen apple cider. They sell it by both the gallon and half-gallon. 

Apple picking will be available for four weeks beginning October 6th. The orchard is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm and Sundays from 12 pm to 5 pm. In October, they're open on Mondays as well.

Hillcrest Orchards

You'll find a nice selection of pick-your-own apple varieties at Hillcrest Orchards. Through October, you can also visit their pumpkin patch to pick your own pumpkin. In addition, the orchard hosts lots of fun fall activities like a corn maze, hayrides, pedal karts, a playground and swing set, and more. 

U-pick is available through October 23rd on weekends only from 10 am to 6 pm. The admission cost to visit the farm is $12 per person. Kids 3 and under and seniors 73 and older get in for free. 

Stahl's Farm Market

10680 N. Johnson Rd., North Benton, OH 44449

Through October, you can visit Stahl's Farm Market to pick your own apples. They'll give you a container to use, and you can either drive or walk out to the orchard. This is a great way to enjoy the fresh air and take in the sights of the country. During October, you can pick your own pumpkins there too. 

When you're done with your apple picking, don't forget to visit the store, where you can buy non-pasteurized cider, assorted jams and jellies, fresh-baked bread, and more. They're open 7 days a week from 10 am to 6 pm.

Bauman Orchards

You'll love the easy-to-reach dwarf apple trees at Bauman Orchards! Even better, they constantly have fun and interesting events happening onsite. If you can, plan to visit them for their final Fall Festival date on October 2nd from 8 am to 5 pm.

During the festival, you'll be able to pick your own apples and enjoy both apple cider and cider donuts that are made fresh while you watch. There will also be a food truck, live music, pony rides, and a chance to visit with their farm animals.  

Miller Orchards

If you want to take a step back in time, pay a visit to Miller Orchards. This family-owned farm has been around since the mid-1800s! They have a huge variety of u-pick apples available throughout the season. They also carry many other items like local maple syrup, local raw honey, squash, pumpkins, and more.

Miller Orchards is open from 9 am to 6 pm Monday through Saturday and is closed on Sundays.

Richardson Farms

There's plenty to explore at Richardson Farms! They have a variety of pick-your-own apples available and a pumpkin patch where you can pick your own pumpkin. You can also stock up your kitchen at their farm stand, where you'll find a nice selection of fresh-grown vegetables, herbs, and fruit. 

A farm isn't a farm without animals! They welcome visitors to spend some time with their cows, pigs, chickens, and turkeys. You can also take a hayride around the farm. The hours here vary, so you'll want to give them a call at 330-722-4029 before you head out.

This super-cozy and charming bakery in the Cleveland Heights suburb prepares all of their baked goods onsite. Here you'll find lots of delicious sweet treats, including cookies, cakes, cupcakes, and pies. The option to get a whole cake or pie or purchase items by the slice makes The Sweet Fix the perfect option for special occasions and the random sweet craving. Some of the tastiest menu items include the strawberry cream cheese pound cake, peach cobbler, German chocolate cake, and Oreo pie. If you can't make it to the bakery, they also deliver through Doordash, Grubhub, and Uber Eats.

Farkas Pastry Shop

The home of fine European pastries, tortes, and Hungarian desserts, Farkas Pastry Shop is a must-visit location when you're in the Cleveland area. All of the bakery items here are hand-made using recipes that Attila Farkas and his father (a master pastry chef in Budapest) brought over from Hungary. Some of their most popular menu items include Napoleons, Dobos, and Linzers. Not sure what these are? Well, it's about time you found out! (You'll be glad you did). They also have a wide variety of traditional treats, including mocha mousse cups, chocolate rum squares, Amaretto squares, and more. Stop by once, and you'll quickly see why this shop has been a Cleveland tradition for over 45 years.

Presti's Bakery

The original Presti's Bakery opened back in 1903 and has been a family tradition ever since. They moved into their current location in 1999, and, to this day, it remains an integral part of the city's Little Italy neighborhood. Here you'll find mouth-watering pastries, cakes, cookies, fresh-baked Italian bread, and a variety specialty breads. They also serve lemon ice, gelato, and soft-serve ice cream. This old-world bakery has been delivering tasty treats to area visitors since 1984. Kiedrowski's Bakery is home to the "World-Famous Snoogle," a Polish puff pastry wrapped in sweetened cream cheese and topped with a vanilla butter-bean glaze. Cleveland Coconut Candles

Cleveland is not generally considered a tropical location, but thanks to Tim & Laura Thornton, you can "bring home the beach." Inspired by sights on a trip to the Panama Canal, the couple came up with the concept for Cleveland Coconut Candles. Their signature product is candles poured into half or whole coconut shells sourced from a supplier in Florida. A wide ribbon-style wick creates a tiki-torch effect as the candle burns. The tropical theme is enhanced with scents such as Jamaica Me Crazy, a blend of pineapple, orange, honeydew melon, coconut, jasmine, rum, and vanilla. Fort Meigs was the site of an important battle during the War of 1812. As is the case with many historic war sites, this battlefield often shows signs of a haunting. Ghosts of dead soldiers are seen walking around at night, as are mysterious blue orbs that float around the battleground. If you listen closely, you might even hear the sounds of marching footsteps or canons being fired in the distance. A great place to learn about the history of our state, a haunted tour of Fort Meigs is perfect for history buffs.

Merry Go Round Museum

While you're listening closely for her footsteps, don't be surprised if you feel a tug on your shirt — a young girl also haunts this museum and sometimes interacts with visitors.

This historic castle is now a museum on the banks of the Little Miami River. Built in the 1920s by medievalist Harry D. Andrews, the chateau's beautiful landscape was the site of a fiery tragedy. A moonshiner and his wife lived in a small cabin near the end of the castle's property. One day, Harry Andrews heard an explosion at the cabin and rushed over to help. The moonshiner's wife was found dead and Andrews sustained severe burns that resulted in his untimely death. Visitors claim that the castle is haunted by three ghosts — a male entity who is likely Harry Andrews, a female entity who is assumed to be the moonshiner's wife, and a Viking entity that is said to haunt the castle's exterior. Find our for yourself on a walking tour of the grounds.

Collingwood Arts Center

Once a retirement home for local nuns, just one look at the Collingwood Arts Center's Gothic façade is enough to make you believe it's haunted. The retirement home closed for a few years before being reimagined as an arts center…but a few spirits from the past stuck around. Like many areas in Northeast Ohio, Mohican State Park owes its spectacular scenery to the Ice Age. More than 14,000 years ago, glaciers traveled across the landscape, carving gorges and creating mineral and rock deposits. Mohican's centerpiece, Clear Fork Gorge, plummets 300 feet deep and measures more than 1,000 feet across at its top. The park has several recently remodeled two-bedroom cabins along the Clear Fork River, some where pets are permitted, that sleep up to six guests. Anglers flock to Mohican for largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill, white crappie, and brown trout. If you want more active pursuits, check out the park's numerous hiking and biking trails, some of which pass the Gorge as well as two waterfalls and a covered bridge.

Punderson State Park

Anchored by a stunning 150-acre natural "kettle" lake, Punderson State Park offers a wide range of activities to satisfy all ages. Rent a boat at the marina for a day of fishing or sightseeing out on the water.
