Its fertile soil and climate make it a prime location to grow grapes, as evidenced by its many local wineries. They offer a relaxed atmosphere and are often family-owned, so you'll be able to learn about their history and offerings. Some also offer food ranging from small bites to full meals, as well as weekend entertainment.

Sharon James Cellars

Try one of several handcrafted wines at Sharon James Cellars, where you'll find reds, whites, and roses named after virtues like vitality and compassion. The property has a tasting room if you prefer to enjoy your wine indoors, as well as an outdoor patio and open-air outdoor pavilion if you like to relax outside with your wine. The winery also has a full-service kitchen and full-time chef, so you can indulge in deliciously fresh meals prepared using local ingredients. Urban Vintner

You'll be able to see the entire production process at Urban Vintner, watching the transformation from grape to bottled wine. It's co-owned by award-winning winemaker Ed Trebets, who has won over 1,000 medals in his winemaking career. Sample several with a visit to the Tasting Room, which is open on Fridays and Saturdays. And if you'd like to try even more varieties, the winery offers a wine club that includes selections that are locally produced as well as ones that are globally sourced.
Laleure Vineyards

This small boutique winery makes most of its wines from vinifera grapes grown right on the property. Schedule your visit for a weekend if possible, when the tasting room is open, but it's also open by appointment if you'd like to visit at another time. The vineyard also frequently hosts live entertainment on Fridays and/or Saturdays, so order a glass of your favorite selection and relax while you enjoy the music.
Blind Squirrel Winery

Wines are produced and blended on-site at Blind Squirrel winery, and they're selected to appeal to a wide range of tastes. Some additional wines are offered seasonally. The tasting room is open Thursdays through Saturdays from 4-9 p.m., so try some different types and settle on a full glass or two of your favorite.
Stonegait Winery

If Stonegait Winery has a rustic barn-like appearance, that's because it once was a barn on a former horse farm. The owners purchased the barn after planting their vineyard and waiting four years, and they then renovated the barn to transform it into a winery. It now offers a full food menu along with an extensive list of wine offerings that you're welcome to enjoy by the bottle, glass, or taste. Fridays or Saturdays are a good time to visit if you'd like to enjoy live music along with your food and wine.

Try their wines by the bottle, glass, or taste in a relaxing indoor or outdoor seating area. You'll be able to choose from old-world as well as new-world varieties, in addition to local and historical varieties and blends.
Debonne Vineyards

The largest estate winery in Ohio, Debonne Vineyards has over 175 acres of grapevines. The vineyard is known for its newer varieties and original blends and has also opened its own microbrewery. To learn about the entire winemaking process, schedule a tour that includes four samples of wine as well as cheese and crackers. You can also choose a tasting tray of your favorite type of wine, such as dry red or Riesling, and you'll get a souvenir glass, bottled water, crackers, and chocolate. And if you're ready for a meal, a casual food menu is also available. You might want to time your visit to coincide with one of the many events hosted by the winery, including a home winemaking class, fun run, bocce ball tournament, or motorcycle rally.

Codex Brewing

For some delicious locally-brewed craft beer choices, check out Codex Brewing. This small brewery has 13 rotating taps to choose from, including delicious IPAs, wheat beers, and even seltzers. Enjoy your beer inside their cozy, minimalist taproom. Codex Brewing doesn't have a kitchen, but they do frequently have food trucks, and they even allow you to bring your own food. The taproom is open Wednesday through Sunday, and drive-thru beer pickup is also available.
Seventh Son Brewing Co.

Seventh Son has been voted best brewery in Columbus on multiple occasions and makes some of the most delicious ales & IPAs in Central Ohio. Located in the historic Italian Village, Seventh Son has a robust draft list, great food truck schedule, and even a small retail shop. Enjoy the rustic atmosphere of the taproom, which is divided into two floors and has a "Downstairs Draft List" and an "Upstairs Draft List." There is plenty of table space both indoors and outdoors, and the bar is open 7 days a week.
Corner Stone Craft Beer & Wine

This locally-owned brewery and retail store sits in the Olde Towne East area of Columbus and provides a comfortable atmosphere to learn about and try different craft beers and wine. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and can help you find your new favorite beer. The store has six rotating drafts but also features over 300 different varieties of bottled beer. Growlers are available if you'd like to take your beet to-go. Make sure to check out their website for fun weekend events. The brewery is open Monday through Saturday until 10 pm on weeknights and 11 pm on weekends.

Best known for its Columbus IPA, Bodhi, and German Lagers, Columbus Brewing Company's massive brewery is where you'll find some of the most popular beers in Central Ohio. The large brewery is attached to a beautiful taproom where you can enjoy 20 popular beers, all brewed on-site. Beer is available to go, and small plates, appetizers, and pizzas are available to order. Stop by Wednesday through Thursday for a beer and a snack.
Rhinegeist Brewery

One of the most popular craft beer brands in the Midwest can be found right in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood of Cincinnati. This 25,000 square foot brewery features a rooftop bar and a beautiful taproom. The draft list includes all the popular Rhinegeist favorites plus rotating season choices. Best of all, you can take a tasting tour of the entire brewing facility on weekends. While they don't actually serve food, they do have a partnership with their next-door neighbor's OTR Chili, so it's to pair your favorite Cincinnati chili with your favorite beer. The brewery is open Tuesday through Sunday.
MadTree Brewing

MadTree Brewing has over 26 styles of craft beer and an awesome family-friendly vibe. There are a variety of outdoor activities on the weekends, and the brewery is dog-friendly. The Cleveland area was so welcoming and supportive that Fat Head's added a beer hall and restaurant six years later. Northeast Ohio was shaped in large part by European immigrants, and Hansa Brewery honors their influence with authentic food and drink. For more than 40 years, Hansa Import House sold an extensive variety of imported meats, cheeses, and beers. In 2013, work began on Boris Music's dream project of upgrading the shop while adding a brewery and restaurant. A visit to Hansa might include a pint of whimsically named Bye Felicia! with potato pancakes and Wiener Schnitzel.
Bad Tom Smith Brewing

Where to Celebrate the Luck o' the Irish Around Northeast Ohio
Whether you're Irish or just Irish for a day, St. Patrick's Day is a huge holiday in Northeast Ohio. You'll find one of the country's largest St. Paddy's Day parades here, as well as pub crawls and even a sober gathering.
If you're planning to celebrate the holiday with some green beer or other adult beverages, make sure you've planned ahead for a safe ride home. Install Lyft and Uber apps on your phone in advance, and also consider public transportation. Cleveland's RTA, for example, typically offers all-day passes for St. Patrick's Day that you can buy on your smartphone.

Cleveland has hosted a St. Patrick's Day Parade for 175 years, and the tradition continues in 2020. This year's theme is Ireland's Scenic Coastlines, so you'll see that some of the floats have incorporated this theme. Line up early so you can get a good view of the bands, floats, dancing groups, and much more as they wind their way through downtown Cleveland in one of the country's largest parades.
Shamrock Parade Shuttle and Dinner

Make transportation to the parade easy on yourself by taking a shuttle from Brennan's and then keep the fun going by returning on the shuttle at 3:30.
